With just over 40,000 original miles, there's no doubt that this Corvette was a fair-weather toy and you can see from its condition that it has been loved.
That's 100% original Torch Red paint, never repainted, touched up, or dinged.
And for an '80s paint job, it's pretty darned good with no fading or peeling that you often saw from GM at that time.
1987 was only the second year of the C4 convertible, so there weren't many changes, but the look remains timeless and these cars are aging rather well-this car still attracts plenty of admiring glances on the street.
Build quality was actually very good on these cars, with good gaps and doors that close with a very solid-sounding kerCHUNK (you Corvette guys know what I'm talking about).
Remarkably, this one doesn't have a beat-up nose or rockers and the headlights still flip open with vigor.
For the money, this is a whole lot of bright red fun.
The red leather interior is equally well-preserved, which is remarkable both because it's a convertible and because it's red, which is always prone to fading.
There are a few creases in the driver's chair, but no splits or tears or UV damage and it certainly appears that someone has been regularly conditioning the hides.
Corvette convertibles pretty much only came loaded, so this one includes automatic climate control (with $1700 worth of recent service, including a new compressor), power windows, locks, mirrors, and seats, cruise control, a tilt steering column, digital gauges with a trip computer, and a Delco/Bose AM/FM/cassette stereo that still sounds pretty good.
Most importantly, the digital gauges are fully operational with bright, clear illumination and the configurable display is a precursor to the systems in use today.
We love the brilliant red carpets, which are in great shape, and the white convertible top stows in seconds once you perfect the technique.
There's even a bit of storage behind the seats in case you want to take your new 'Vette on a road trip.
The engine is Chevy's familiar L98 350 cubic inch V8, which in 1987 was making 245 horsepower and 345 lb-ft.

It's punchy to be sure and the 700R4 4-speed automatic is an ideal partner, ready to serve up a downshift to get you into the fat part of the curve.
Unlike so many of its siblings, this one is completely stock, right down to the air filter, and I'd be surprised if it's ever seen more than 4000 RPM.
The engine bay uses stock fittings and hardware throughout with no signs of inclement weather or hack work anywhere-all the aluminum is still bright and crisp.
Proper maintenance has been done over the years, but they were conscientious about it because even things like the factory hose clamps are still there.
It starts easily, idles properly, and pulls hard out on the street with all that luscious torque available just off idle.
The Corvette's ultra-competent suspension and powerful brakes were favorites of car magazines in the '80s and it remains entertaining today, with notably high limits but a very user-friendly demeanor.
You'll note the undercarriage is extremely clean and this car still carries its original exhaust system-impressive! Corvettes don't rust, of course, but looking at the aluminum components again shows us that this car has always been stored indoors and never used in winter weather.
It stops and steers properly and remains a blast to drive.
Factory 16-inch wheels are in very good shape and carry recent 255/50/16 BFGoodrich T/A radials that were some of the widest tires you could buy in 1987.
Documentation includes the original window sticker and factory books.
